In 2022, I visited Taipei twice by myself!

The first time I visited Taipei on my own was in September last year. I wanted to get out of Singapore for a short trip and decided to visit a friend I had first met in Hanoi. The second time happening just a month ago where I visited Taipei again for Taipei’s Blockchain Week.

Check out the Taipei reel on Instagram and show your support for my post about Taipei Blockchain Week.

Travel Preparation before Taipei

Before my first trip to Taiwan, I did extensive research on the best places to visit and read up on the culture and customs. My Chinese language skills were only moderate, so I had to prepare. I had lost touch with the language as I don’t converse in Chinese often. I was worried that people might not comprehend my meaning.

I was also eager to experience Taipei, as I knew the food would be great!

My Taipei’s experience

When I arrived at Tao Yuan International Airport, I was pleased to find that the staff were friendly and hospitable. As I rode into the city, I felt safe and secure; the streets were bustling with people going about their daily activities.

During my first solo trip to Taipei, I stayed in the Xin Yi district at ARK Hotel (Dong Men), which was close to some of the city’s most popular attractions. On my second trip, I stayed in Kaifeng district at Rich & Free Hotel, which was near the National Taiwan Museum and Jinan Church.

On both occasions, I used Trip.com to book my hotels and flights. If you’re looking to book your next trip, consider using Trip.com with my link to support me!

Exploring Taipei for the first time

During my first trip to Taipei, I had more time to explore the city.

I visited the Taipei 101 mall, the Zhongshan Hall, the Rao He Night Market, and the Shilin Night Market. My friend even brought me to his favourite local restaurant near the ARK Hotel (Dong Men), which served traditional Taiwanese dishes. I even managed to visit one night club and met someone there.

Before heading back to Singapore for the first time, I took the train to Hsinchu to meet my friend from New York. I had difficulty reading the words on the signage and had to ask an elderly person for directions. She was very kind and stayed with me for the entire 45-minute train ride to Hsinchu, where I was supposed to meet my friend.

Back for Taipei Blockchain Week

Taipei Blockchain Week is an event that brings together a diverse range of individuals who are passionate about crypto, blockchain, and web3. The event drew in industry veterans from all corners of the world, budding startup founders from Asia and other parts of the globe, and venture capitalists eager to find the next big investment opportunity.

All of these people had the same goal in mind — to get the latest information and news about the ever-evolving blockchain space. There was a palpable energy in the air as attendees shared their knowledge and discussed the potential of the technology and its applications.

I spent the majority of my second visit to Taipei during Taipei Blockchain Week devoted to networking and forming connections with potential investors and other founders. I was fortunate enough to have Continuum selected to present on stage during the Demo Day, in front of a large and engaged audience. It was a fantastic experience, and a photograph of me taken by the event photographer at that moment was captured for posterity.

It was a great opportunity to share with everyone about Continuum, and I felt truly honoured to be a part of this amazing event.

Overall, I had an amazing time in Taipei both times of my visit, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to explore a new city. It was a great way to get away from the daily grind and explore a new city.

There are many things for everyone to explore and I look forward to coming back soon!
